Do shoots using beaters still take place at Het Loo?
No, shoots using beaters no longer take place at Het Loo Palace.
Het Loo consists of crown property and state property, with a total area of some 10,000 hectares. The red deer, roe and wild boar that live there are part of the wooded heathland ecology. They are managed as naturally as possible within the property’s ecological capacity.
Forestry and logging are also important at Het Loo. To maintain a balance between the property’s various functions and prevent overpopulation, hunting remains a necessity.
But the wildlife is managed by individual hunters, as stipulated in the Flora and Fauna Act. There is no hunting in groups or with beaters.
