Marriages

Prince William’s first wife, Anna of Egmond, Countess of Buren (1533-1558), brought important landholdings in Holland and Zealand into the union. His subsequent marriages were dictated by political considerations. His last wife was Louise de Coligny (1555-1620), daughter of the leader of the French Protestants, who was assassinated in 1572.

In 1584 William of Orange was himself murdered, in Delft.
