Committal

On Saturday 11 December, a ceremonial procession will convey the body of His Royal Highness Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands from Noordeinde Palace in The Hague to the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft, where the Prince will be laid to rest in the Royal Vault. The procession will leave Noordeinde Palace at 09.40 and arrive at the Nieuwe Kerk at 12.15. The funeral service will begin at 12.30 and end around 13.30.

At 09.40 part of the funeral procession, including four of the Prince’s grandsons in a carriage, will depart from Noordeinde Palace for the Netherlands Defence College in Rijswijk. In Rijswijk, the Prince’s four daughters will join the procession in another carriage. At 11.35 the complete procession will leave for the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft with full military honours. It will arrive at 12.15.

The route from Noordeinde Palace to the Netherlands Defence College is: front of Noordeinde Palace-Heulstraat-Kneuterdijk-Buitenhof-Spui-Rijswijkseplein-Rijswijkseweg-Haagweg-Rotterdamseweg-Laan van Hoornwijck-Singel-Poortweg-Netherlands Defence College, Brasserskade.

The route from the Netherlands Defence College to the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft is: Poortweg-Vrijebanselaan-Wateringse Vest-Noordeinde-Oude Delft-Nieuwstraat-Camaretten-around the town hall-around Markt square-Nieuwe Kerk.

The Prince of Orange, Princess Máxima, Mr Pieter van Vollenhoven, Prince Maurits and Princess Marilène will arrive at Delft town hall at 11.20, where they will receive members of the Royal Family, dignitaries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and members of foreign royal houses. The dignitaries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands will cross Markt square to the Nieuwe Kerk on foot at 11.50. The members of foreign royal houses will follow at 11.55 and the members of the Royal Family at 12.00. Other guests will arrive at the Nieuwe Kerk between 10.30 and 12.00.

The funeral service begins at 12.30. The Prince will be laid to rest in the Royal Vault of the Nieuwe Kerk. At 13.30 the Royal Family will depart for Noordeinde Palace, where royal and other guests will have an opportunity to offer their condolences.
