The funeral

The funeral and interment of His Royal Highness Prince Claus of the Netherlands took place at the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft on Tuesday 15 October 2002. The officiating minister was Reverend C.A. ter Linden. The funeral procession departed from Noordeinde Palace in The Hague for the Netherlands Defence College in Rijswijk, where it was joined by the Prince’s immediate family. The complete procession left for the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft with full military honours.

Members of the Royal Family who were not taking part in the procession, dignitaries from the Kingdom of the Netherlands and visiting members of royal houses assembled in Delft town hall. The dignitaries and members of royal houses crossed Markt square to the Nieuwe Kerk on foot, followed by the members of the Royal Family assembled in the town hall.

After the service and the interment, the Royal Family and their guests departed for Noordeinde Palace, where guests had an opportunity to offer their condolences.

The Prince’s journey from The Hague to his final resting place in Delft, and the funeral service, was broadcasted live on television.
