AMSTERDAM AND THE HOUSE OF ORANGE
ROYAL WEDDINGS IN AMSTERDAM
The presumed heir to the Dutch throne was not obliged to marry in Amsterdam. In the nineteenth century, the weddings of all three Dutch kings took place in the bride’s place of residence. Queen Wilhelmina and Princess Juliana were both married in The Hague, where they lived. Queen Beatrix was the first monarch to marry in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. The Prince of Orange will now follow the example set by his mother.
