Act of parliamentary consent
On 21 May 2001 the kingdom bill to grant permission to HRH Prince Willem-Alexander Claus George Ferdinand, Prince of Orange, Prince of the Netherlands, Prince of Orange-Nassau, Jonkheer van Amsberg to marry Ms Máxima Zorreguieta was put before the States-General by the Dutch government. The bill was discussed in the Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles on 12 June 2001 and in the Parliament of Aruba on 14 June. Both parliaments consented to the bill. The States-General granted its consent to the proposed marriage on 3 July 2001. The Act of Parliamentary Consent was published in the Bulletin of Acts Orders and Decrees (Staatsblad) no. 333, on 4 July 2001.
From the date of the marriage, which is scheduled to take place on 2 February 2002, Ms Máxima Zorreguieta will become a member of the Royal House. Since this requires her to have Dutch nationality, in the light of the exceptional circumstances she has been granted naturalisation by Royal Decree of 17 May 2001.
Argentine law does not permit Máxima Zorreguieta to lose or renounce her Argentinian nationality. However, she is no longer able to exercise any political rights in Argentina. Dutch nationality is her first and principal nationality under both Dutch and Argentine law.
In view of the role played by the consort in the performance of his royal duties by the Prince of Orange as heir apparent to the throne, the titles Princess of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau will be bestowed on her by Royal Decree on the occasion of the marriage. She will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, Mrs van Amsberg.
The government proposes to rule by Royal Decree on the occasion of the marriage that the family name of any children born to the marriage will be Orange-Nassau. The children will bear the following titles and names: His (Her) Royal Highness Prince (Princess) of the Netherlands, Prince (Princess) of Orange-Nassau.
