'Meet the people' tour

His Royal Highness the Prince of Orange and his fiancée Ms Máxima Zorreguieta have visited the 12 provinces and four major cities of the Netherlands between 4 September and 15 November 2001. The parts of the Kingdom overseas - the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba - will be visited after the Royal Couple have married.

The visits were intended as an opportunity for the Royal Couple and the authorities and local residents to meet one another. Each visit consisted of both formal elements and opportunities to meet the public. The Prince and his fiancée visited a large number of institutions and organisations in virtually every area of society. During the public occasions the Royal Couple shook hands with thousands of the people thronging the route.
