Pool arrangements and press facilities

More than 1250 media representatives from almost 300 different national and international media have registered to record the events on 31 January and 1 February 2002 prior to the Royal Wedding and the wedding itself on 2 February 2002. Only limited space is available in Amsterdam city centre and at the wedding locations. Strict security measures will be in force to maintain public order and to safeguard the security of the Royal Couple, the guests, the public and press.
The locations of the events surrounding the wedding - Royal Palace Amsterdam, Concertgebouw and Amsterdam Arena - and the locations of the civil and church wedding ceremonies – the Beurs van Berlage building and the Nieuwe Kerk - will be part of a secured area.

The opportunities for the press to report on the wedding are therefore extremely restricted. A pool arrangement will apply to all press events at the locations listed above. The pools have been allocated by the RVD (Netherlands Government Information Service) with a view to ensuring the broadest possible media representation. The pool allocation is enclosed.

Pools

Media representative allocated to a pool will receive an RVD-pass and a pool sticker or stickers, and an ID card issued by the Amsterdam Amstelland Police. Details of where and when you can pick up the RVD-pass, pool stickers and ID card are given below.
If you decide not to take up a place in a pool to which you are allocated, please notify the RVD as soon as possible (tel: (+31) (0)70 – 356 4142, fax: (+31) (0)70 – 356 684). If you decide not to take part in a pool, this does not give you the right to a place in a different pool.
NB: If your medium is allocated to more than one pool on 2 February, this means that you must send a different person to each pool. Please note that in some of the pools on 2 February only one camera-operator can be admitted per television station. No sound crew or reporters/editors will be admitted.

Other press stands

On 2 February press stands outside the secured area will be located on the Dam, opposite the Nieuwe Kerk and along the procession route to be taken by the Golden Coach. These press stands can be used by all RVD-accredited media representatives in possession of an RVD press pass. The pool arrangement does not apply here.
For the events on 31 January and 1 February, members of the media not allocated to a pool will only be allowed to work outside the security barriers. No press stands will be available at these events.

Collection of RVD-press passes, pool stickers and ID cards

You can pick up your press pass, ID cards – and pool stickers if applicable - after presentation of a valid passport on Thursday 31 January and Friday 1 February only, between 09.00 and 21.00. The passes, stickers and ID cards can be collected from the RVD Accreditation desk in the press centre at the City Hall, Amstel 1 in Amsterdam (tel: (+31) (0)20 422 93 79 or (+31) (0)20 422 93 80).
The RVD press pass gives you access to the press centre and the right to use its facilities from 31 January to 2 February. In addition, your RVD Pass will give you access to the press stands outside the secured areas on 2 February.

After collecting their RVD pass and pool stickers, media representatives allocated to one or more pools should report to the Amsterdam Amstelland Police in the Boekmanzaal in the City Hall. The Police will issue them with an ID card only after presentation of a valid passport

Security procedure in the pools

Prior to each press event, pool participants should register in good time in the Boekmanzaal and ensure that they are carrying their RVD pass, ID card and the appropriate pool sticker. Following a security check they will be escorted by bus to the relevant press area.

The press programme shows the exact times at which pool participants must register. The press programme is available from the press centre or soon online at www.koninklijkhuis.nl/huwelijk.nl (english version, see pressaccreditation) Given the strict security requirements, we strongly advise that you observe the times given in the press programme.

If you are allocated to more than one pool on 2 February, please note that you will not be able to leave the secured area before the end of the event. The RVD will send round bicycle couriers at certain times to deliver your film to the Eurovisie bookings office in the Raadhuisstraat, behind the Magna Plaza.

Press centre

The press centre is located in Amsterdam City Hall, Amstel 1, Amsterdam. Access is through the Waterlooplein entrance.
