Work and official duties

Besides his official duties as a member of the Royal House, Prince Constantijn has decided to pursue his own career.

On graduating, Prince Constantijn gained work experience in the private office of the Dutch European Commissioner, Hans van den Broek, and continued to work there until 1999.

From 2001 to 2003, the Prince worked as a strategic policy consultant with Booz Allen & Hamilton in London.

He has been working as an advisor on European communications at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1 August 2003. In this capacity, he spends one day a week advising the Minister for European Affairs on communication strategies on European cooperation.

Since 1 March 2004, the Prince has been working for four days a week in Brussels as a policy researcher for RAND Europe, a non-profit organisation responsible for independent policy research and consultancy for both the public and private sectors in areas such as information technology, transport, education, health care and safety. Since 2007, the Prince has been head of the organisation’s information policy and economics team, in which he mainly focuses on the introduction and application of information technology and their implications for policy. In early 2008, he was also appointed head of RAND Europe's Brussels office.   

Prince Constantijn is also Honorary Chair of the Prince Claus Fund, Chair of The Hague Process on Refugees and Migration, Chair of the Prince Bernhard Nature Fund and patron of the National Musical Instrument Fund.
