The thirtieth of April 2005 marked the 25th anniversary of Princess Beatrix’s accession to the throne as Queen of the Netherlands.
Her jubilee was celebrated extensively. The National Silver Jubilee Committeeorganised a varied programme, to which many members of the Dutch public contributed. The jubilee was a party for, by and involving all inhabitants of the Kingdom. The emphasis throughout was on the role of the monarch, rather than on the Queen as an individual. Accordingly, many jubilee events had a relatively formal character, while naturally retaining a festive tone.
